Human Research News v9, n9: Posting of IRB Approval Packets on the Office of Research Portal; Forwarding of IRB Correspondence by E-Mail
July 2, 2009
In order to facilitate communication with the research community, the Human Research Protection Program in the Office for the Protection of Research Subjects, the following enhancements will be initiated as of Monday, July 6, 2009:
Posting of IRB Approval Packets on the Office of Research Portal
IRB approval packets will be available for download from the ORA Online Resource Center (Research Portal) at http://portal.research.ucla.edu/. To retrieve the documents, click on the “Compliance” tab, look under “Reports” and then click on “IRB Protocol Review Status Report”. Or click here for the direct link. If you need help with your UCLA logon, you will find log on information at https://logon.ucla.edu/activate.php.
Once the IRB has approved a study, the IRB staff will post a PDF of the Approval Notice and appropriate accompanying documents (screening, recruitment and consent documents) on the portal for download. The IRB staff will notify you by e-mail that the documents are available for download.
Important Notes:
- The IRB will no longer mail out or require pick up of hard copies of the approval packets in the Kinross Building.
- You will need your UCLA logon ID (formerly your Bruin Online ID) to access documents. If you already have a Bruin Online ID, it is now your UCLA Logon ID. See above link for questions or assistance with your UCLA Logon ID.
- If you are unable to download documents for a study, it may because most people are given access to only one department’s information. If you want another department to be added to your security profile, contact the CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) of the desired department and have that person e-mail Portal@research.ucla.edu directly with approval for your access permission as well as the department code number.
Forwarding of IRB Correspondence by E-Mail
The IRB will forward all IRB correspondence, with the exception of approval packets as noted above, to investigators by e-mail. Hard copies will no longer be sent to PIs as the e-mail correspondence will be considered the official correspondence.
Questions, Concerns or Feedback
As always, the HRPP welcomes your feedback. Information about how to contact the IRB can be found at: http://www.oprs.ucla.edu/human/contact. Additional information about providing feedback can be found at: http://www.oprs.ucla.edu/human/program-feedback
